Pass-through mode and encoding

I want to use the passthrough for Zebra ZD621R but the documentation of this printer tells:

The ZDesigner Driver Pass-through mode does not work with Unicode characters. There is no way to force Word to include the required Byte Order Mark for the Unicode character printing.

Is it possible to change the encoding of the List & Label printer files?
