Formatted text (RTF): Note on the Microsoft WordPad reference

Formatted texts (RTF) can be seamlessly integrated into List & Label reports. For rendering these texts, the Microsoft RTF Control is employed, which is deeply embedded within the Windows operating system. The Windows application WordPad, developed by Microsoft, serves as the foundation and reference for the Microsoft RTF Control, enabling the preliminary testing and validation of RTF code, as WordPad itself utilizes the Microsoft RTF Control.

Note: RTF code generated from the Microsoft Office Suite/Word or other RTF-capable programs is unsuitable for the Microsoft RTF Control and should not be used as a reference, as there are discrepancies in the RTF feature set, particularly in the support of tables.

As of Windows 11 version 24H2, the Windows application WordPad is no longer included in Windows. This means that the formatted texts (RTF) in the List & Label reports can no longer be created or checked with WordPad.

The List & Label installation includes several programming examples (e.g. for Microsoft .NET, Visual C++, Visual Basic) that utilize the RTF Control, which can be employed for the creation or validation of RTF code. Additionally, these examples offer the advantage of directly using the LL_OPTION_MAXRTFVERSION or MaxRTFVersion options within the code to test various Microsoft RTF Controls present on the system - refer also to General Information for the RTF Object.
